Aspen Glow

A Deadly Affair

Forbidden love, winter’s fury, a killer’ pursuit

Samantha (Sam) and Peter Harrison leave Denver for the tight-knit, mountain community of Gold City to fix a troubled marriage. But financial woes draw Peter into a risky arrangement with a wealthy but dangerous businessman, Jake Smyth. Peter must keep his work secret even from Sam. Out of loneliness, Sam seeks a job as a clerk in Gold City. But her new boss, city administrator Jack Rawlings is difficult to know. A ruggedly handsome mountain man Jack keeps hidden his troubled life with a stern façade. They get off to a shaky start, but their relationship blossoms into friendship and respect. As Peter grows more distant, Jack becomes closer to Sam. Unintentionally, they fall in love.

Situations change when the FBI taps Peter to help bring Smyth’s tainted empire down. Sam’s keen instincts tells her Peter is up to something. Before she can confront him, Peter goes missing under unusual circumstances. Sam fears the worse. Peter leaves his wife the evidence of Smyth’s crimes and access to his offshore accounts. Enraged, Smyth and his thugs go after Sam as Jack tries to protect her at the risk of his own life. A friend betrays their whereabouts to Smyth and the pursuit begins.

Death chases the couple through a huge winter storm blanketing the Rocky Mountains, downing powerlines and closing roads to Denver. Still Jack and Sam must reach Gold City. Their only method of contact with the FBI and State Patrol is an old ham radio in City Hall. Can the couple stay alive? Shattered marriages, criminal assailants, even murder is no match for love and the pursuit of justice in this deadly affair.
