I’m a storyteller

 

My stories are about the human drama of life and death, desire and love, anger and loss. I take ordinary people and put them in extraordinary circumstances. Then I watch to see how they respond. I focus on how my characters learn to overcome the obstacles that life throws at them while going through personal changes and growth. I have a keen listening ear and a wicked curiosity, which enabled me, to absorb the thoughts, hopes, loves, fears, dreams and failures of the people I have known. I find it fascinating how people approach things that happen to them and how it changes them – good or bad. What we expected our lives to be is not necessarily how they turn out. Life is full of more twists than a roller coaster, love is uncertain and risky, death unexpected, but we somehow make it through with hope, faith, and a bit of laughter to season the stew.

 

I spent 25 plus years in public relations, writing in a variety of styles, such as journalism, advertising, technical, training materials, as well as feature stories/graphics for newsletters and trades. In my free time, I wrote for pure pleasure, expressing my imagination through storytelling and creative work. I have a degree in graphic design which I feel gives me an edge since I think visually. I see my plots, environments and characters quite vividly in my mind like a video. Although I started out in a small town in Colorado, my career allowed me to live in many parts of this country, experience unique employers, (law enforcement, local and federal government, emergency management, marketing, art, retail and military) and meet interesting, famous and diverse personalities from astronauts to presidents, even a prince. Evidence of these influences are present in my works. Many I have personally experienced. Still the most impressive people I have known are my children, family and close friends.

 

I put down roots in the Lone Star state of Texas along the Gulf Coast and love it here! There's nothing like a beach and ocean to get your creative juices flowing. When I'm not writing I enjoy painting, photography and working on my ancestral history.
